Volksfest & dBS
During the long Bank Holiday weekend the normally peaceful acres of Newnham Park were given over to an invasion of Volkswagen-tinged mayhem as the 2009 Plymouth Volksfest arrived. ...

dBs and The Hippo
dBs have just become the proud owners of a live and kicking music venue that we've rechristened The Hippo. Though a fully functioning commercial venue at night, our live sound students get hands on use of it during the day.

Pro Tools all over
As part of an extensive refurbishment over the summer, we're pleased to announce the arrival of several new Pro Tools consoles in our main studios and our live sound venue. These include the D Command, the new C24 and an all singing all dancing Digidesign Venue console.

Hot off the dBs press. From Oct 2008, Students taking our FdA or HNC/HND Music Production courses will also be offered the Pro Tools 110 course for free which usually costs upto £600 in their first year.

Free industry standard Pro Tools course
We are now one of the few certified training locations for Digidesign in the UK. We are the only college to offer Pro Tools 101 courses for free as part of our main Diploma in Creative Sound Engineering and Music Technology. This course usually costs upto £350.

Joss Stone success for dBs
We've just heard that a track recorded in our commercial studio has been selected for inclusion on Joss Stone's new album. Hat's off to our engineer and studio manager Matt Bernard who was involved in the project.

What they say about us...
"The setting, resources and facilities for this course are outstanding. The innovative partnership between Estover College, Deep Blue Sound and the University of Plymouth has resulted in students benefiting from first class resources which are without equal." ...

Exciting new range of short courses
We're pleased to announce that we're finally delivering on what we've promised to so many of you. A range of short courses at all levels based around music software such as Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Reason and Ableton Live.

Open Days - Places available
Come and take a look at the UK’s best music technology facility. For the first time we are inviting members of the public to view our state of the art, multi million pound facility. There will be a full tour of all facilities with a short presentation and refreshments.

The Joss Stone Story
Now that the sessions are completed we can reveal that Joss Stone has been recording at our commercial studio with 2 very famous songwriter/producers. The first session was with Grammy award winning Rick Nowels who has had numerous hit records...

dBs and the MIDAS sponsorship gaff
The news is out - dBs has bagged a fantastic sponsorship deal from MIDAS. For the uninitiated MIDAS manufacture some of the best live mixing consoles that money can buy. And as dBs put on some of the best live sound engineering courses in the UK it seemed like a great idea to get together.

dBs & Neve
Despite all of our latest acquisitions dBs are still the proud owners of 2 Neve 51 series consoles and 2 Studer A800 24 track recorders. The 96 channel Neve is housed in the commercial studio, whilst the 72 channel is for use by the students. Little more to be said...

Success story
Hats off to one of our tutors, Andy Prosser. Both DJ Mag and iDJ raved about the first release of V8 Recordings his new uplifting trance label. Dave Pearce at Radio 1 had the track in his Top 10 and Michael Splint had it as Tune of the Week.

dBs Mission
We are in the business of sound and music technology education. It is our mission to provide an inspirational educational experience in a top class professional recording studio facility competing with the best in the country.

dBs Passion
We are passionate about what we do and we like to pass that on to our tutors and our students. As such we very much expect students to have a professional and responsible attitude to the courses.

the dBs experience
In short the experiences you will receive here are somewhat different to a conventional sound engineering college. The courses are based in a professional recording studio complex in the centre of Plymouth.

dBs talks street
What's this all about then?

Since September 2001 Deep Blue Sound has provided Sound Engineering courses, Music Technology courses and Music Production courses. Recent additions include a new Live Sound course and a new Music for Film & Television degree.

Hands on Music Technology
Too many music technology, sound engineering or music production courses don't allow the student enough access to the equipment itself. We pride ourselves on the level of hands on time our students get during their time with us.

A recording studio course...
Our music technology and sound recording degree is the result of a partnership between dBs as a commercial recording studio, and the University of Plymouth as the academic awarding body.
